Molybdenum mine near Kitsault, B.C., prompted the Environment Protection Service (EPS) to begin a series of baseline marine investigations in the state of the marine environment, in the area of Alice Arm. Primarily, these studies were to provide the necessary data base for future data (post start-up monitoring) comparisons, when the new owners, Amax of Canada Ltd., began production of molybdenum concentration in 1981. In June 1977; and May and October 1980, EPS conducted biological, physical and chemical surveys in both Alice Arm and control areas along the British Columbia coast, to provide this data base"--Introduction.
