It has followed seven years of investigations of the impact of television upon northern Indian communities. It forms a response to two primary findings of that research. First, it is an acknowledgement that Native programming itself is essential to the ultimate aspirations of Native people, figuring as a new vehicle of communications in the normal conduct of their daily lives, self-assuring identity, and protecting a natural balance in cultural change.
