Environment Canada's scientific research publications 1980-1997.En83-12/6E-PDF

It is a follow up to an earlier bibliometric study of the Department's research publications in 1995 (Science Policy Branch Working Paper #1), providing a longer-term perspective on this type of publication. The report focuses on one important output of the Department’s scientific research effort, the scientific research publication. The results shown here are drawn from a bibliometric database containing publications from some 4,000 scientific journals indexed by the Institute for Scientific Information. These are considered to be the most important and the most prestigious peer-reviewed journals. They reflect the most significant scientific achievements and are also the most widely cited (80% of the world's citations). For the purposes of this study, they also provide a good basis for comparisons"--Introduction, page 4.
