5203 |a"Baseline investigations of environmental quality in the Mt. Hundere study area were carried out in June, 1988, and again in June 1990. These studies were in response to mineral exploration and eventual development of the Mt. Hundere (Sa Dena Hes) Lead/Zinc mine. The surveys investigated water quality, sediment chemistry and percent particle size distribution, and benthic invertebrates in the drainages surrounding the mineral development area. Extractable lead and zinc concentrations found in water samples were at maximum levels recommended for aquatic life. Stream sediment chemistry was comparable to sediment compositions found in other mineralized areas in the Yukon. Benthic invertebrate populations appeared significant in numbers and diversity compared with other recent surveys"--Abstract, page i.
