"The Ministers of Environment and Health made a commitment to consult stakeholders following their announcement of the results of substances found to be toxic in the first Priority Substances List (PSL), pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). To ensure that the most effective and efficient environmental management options would be addressed, within the context of pollution prevention and sustainable development, the Strategic Options Process was developed with Environment Canada and Health Canada as the key partners. This consultative mechanism provides the basis for recommendations to the accountable ministers"--Background.
