"The year 1975 marks the centennial of the proclamation in 1875 of Canada's first Weights and Measures Act, and the affirmation of accurate measurement in trade as one of the most fundamental concerns of good government.The Task Force has reviewed the history, the objectives and the present capability of the Weights and Measures inspection service. It has attempted to conduct a searching analysis of present problems, and to select those options for improvement which will assure Weights and Measures a firm footing in meeting the measurement challenges of Canada's next one hundred years"--page [i].
