"The Gulf of St. Lawrence, ice survey: winter 1957, is a study resulting from the second aerial ice survey in which the Canadian Ice Distribution Survey participated. During the winter of 1957 W. A. Black, a member of the Geographical Branch, carried out the ice observations for this report. It is hoped that in publishing this report. It may bring about a clearer understanding of the nature, extent and distribution of the ice and also a clearer understanding of the problems to be faced in the winter navigation of the Gulf of St. Lawrence"--Preface.
