Standardized field sampling method for monitoring the distribution and relative abundance of the carmine shiner (Notropis percobromus) population in Canada / by Camille J. Macnaughton, Doug A. Watkinson,...: Fs97-6/3356E-PDF
"The Species at Risk Program’s objective for Carmine Shiner (Notropis percobromus) is to quantify and maintain current population levels throughout its Canadian range. In an effort to provide science advice to meet the Species at Risk Program objective, this report aims to provide a consistent sampling method and survey design that accurately informs on changes in the distribution and relative abundance of the Carmine Shiner in Manitoba, where it is listed as Threatened. This report details (1) the sampling gear, (2) recommended sampling effort and timing, and (3) sampling sites for Carmine Shiner distribution and relative abundance. This standardized sampling protocol is intended to improve the monitoring of the species throughout its Canadian range, the assessment of population trends, and consequently allow for a better-informed management of the species over time"--Abstract, page vii.
