"This report deals with the investigation of Integrated Services Networks (ISN) under the terms of the Department of Communications contract 09SU 36001-0-3272. In this context an ISN is defined as a network which provides a wide range of services (e.g. telephone, videotex, and electronic message transmission and reception) to the user in an economical fashion. These services can be provided over primarily analog facilities (ISATN: Integrated Services Analog Transport Network), over primarily digital facilities (ISDTN: Integrated Services Digital Transport Networks) or over a combination of both (in which case the general term ISN applies). The specific objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics of various services which might exist in an ISN and to use this information to examine, in a general way, different ISN scenerios"--Executive summary, page i.
