"Climate change is a key priority of the Government of Canada. The Canadian federal government has set strict targets that will require Canadians to adopt current energy-saving technologies and develop breakthrough innovations. Patent data is good starting point for analysis of the development of new technologies as it provides important information on the specific technical knowledge embedded in the invention. This report examines patenting activity by Canadian inventors and businesses in the area of Climate Change Mitigation Technologies (CCMT) using designated patent classification codes that identify patents related to climate change.
