520 |a"A typical set of requirements for future unmanned spacecraft is given. This has been supplemented by an additional set of requirements which arose from the general trend towards automation based on computer technology and sophisticated system control studies. The introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts in the context of space applications is of particular importance at this time, as the products of this technology are expected to affect almost all aspects of computer-related technologies in the relatively near future. Also discussed are a realistic introduction of the concept of software fault-tolerance, and examples of approaches taken by studies in this field. A set of design criteria to assure a high degree of fault-tolerance has also been determined and is described"--Summary, page 1.
