"What has been attempted here is a bibliography of published primary sources and secondary works on Canadian military topics, excluding poetry and fiction, covering the period from Confederation to the present. Entries in the bibliography represent printed monographs, books and pamphlets (from a minimum of ten pages), and serial titles. The prime criteria for inclusion were that the work be chiefly or uniquely both Canadian and military in its contents. In order to keep the bibliography to a reasonable size, periodical articles are not listed individually. Instead, serial titles of mainly Canadian and military content have been included, interfiled with monograph titles in the appropriate sections of the bibliography. Newspapers and newsletters have been excluded, but unit magazines and yearbooks regularly containing material of historical interest about the unit are found here. Materials on soldiers' rehabilitation have not been considered. Veterans' publications and works about veterans have been included only if they deal directly with the wartime activities of individuals or units"--Introduction, page xvi.
