Physical oceanographic conditions on the Scotian Shelf and in the Gulf of Maine during 2018 / D. Hebert, R. Pettipas and D. Brickman.: Fs70-5/2020-036E-PDF

"This document discusses air temperature trends, ice cover, Sea Surface Temperatures (SST), and physical oceanographic variability during 2018 on the Scotian Shelf, Bay of Fundy, and the Gulf of Maine, from observations and model results. It complements similar reviews of the conditions in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Newfoundland-Labrador regions for the Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program (AZMP) which together serve as a basis for a zonal Science Advisory Report. Environmental conditions are compared with the long-term monthly and annual means. These comparisons are often expressed as anomalies, which are the deviations from the long-term means, or as standardized anomalies; that is, the anomaly divided by the Standard Deviation (SD). If the data permit, the long-term means and SDs are calculated for the 30-year base period of 1981-2010. The use of standardized anomalies and the same base period allow direct comparison of anomalies among sites and variables"--Introduction, page 1.
