"Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is obligated, under the Correctional and Conditional Release Act (CCRA), to provide inmates with "essential" health care which conforms to professionally accepted standards. In addition, health care services must respect gender, cultural and linguistic differences, and be responsive to the special needs of women and aboriginal people. Adequately addressing offenders' health needs assists them in participating in correctional programs that contribute to their successful reintegration and contributes to public health and safety"--Executive summary, page i.
