"This literature review on the Canadian visual arts market was carried out at the request of the team at Canadian Heritage's Creative Marketplace and Innovation Branch (CMIB). Focusing on studies published in the last 10 years, the review examines the economic impact of the visual arts market and the socio-economic conditions of cultural workers, including visual artists. All reviewed publications are listed in the appendix. The purpose of this literature review was to: 1) examine the structure of the art world and the economic impact of the Canadian visual arts market; 2) describe the visual arts supply chain and how it has changed, if at all; 3) provide an overview of the socio-economic conditions of cultural workers, including visual artists, and segment data on the market's accessibility to ethnocultural communities such as visible minorities, Indigenous people, women, etc.; 4) report any other important consideration found in the literature on the Canadian visual arts market"--Preface.
