520 | |a"As the upper limit of the radio spectrum employed in terrestrial and earth-space communications moves ever higher in frequency, the engineer is increasingly confronted by the need to consider climate as an important element in the design of radio systems. As part of its efforts in analyzing and interpreting long-term meteorological observations, the Communications Research Centre has developed an extensive precipitation data base for locations in all parts of the country. A preliminary report presenting the rainfall rate distributions for most of these locations has already been prepared and distributed within the radio engineering community. This monograph is an enhanced and expanded version of that earlier document. The analysis employed here includes a number of adjustments and corrections not contained in the earlier work. The graphical presentation has been modified in order to improve the resolution of the high-intensity portion of the distributions. In addition, an attempt has been made to bring together in this volume a good deal of relevant meteorological information – much of it coming from sources outside the normal radio engineering literature"--Preface, page v. |
