"The literature was reviewed for publications concerning the iron bacteria subsequent to the review articles published in the early 1960's. An examination of this literature revealed that the iron bacteria could be placed in four major groups: the Sphaerotilus—Leptothrix group; Gallionella (stalked bacteria); the budding bacteria and the gram-negative chemolithotrophs"--Summary.
