"An experimental demand assignment multiple access (DAMA) system was demonstrated using the communications satellite HERMES (formerly CTS, the joint U.S./Canadian Communications Technology Satellite). The satellite was operated in a single-channel-per-carrier, frequency-division multiple-access (SCPC/FDMA), double-hop mode. The DAMA system utilized central control with a random access request channel and was interfaced to the switched telephone network"--Abstract, page 1.
