"In order to meet its operational requirements, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) must be well trained and properly equipped. Its “68,000 regular force members and 30,000 reserve force members must also be supported by a supply chain that provides them with the materiel they need, when needed. This materiel includes the goods military members use regularly, such as uniforms, specialized clothing, and rations. It also includes the equipment and spare parts needed to operate, maintain, and repair large fleets of vehicles, ships, and aircraft, as well as ammunition and fuel"--Introduction, page 1.
