"The Species at Risk Act includes, as part of its purposes, providing for the recovery of wildlife species that are extirpated, endangered or threatened; and managing species of special concern to prevent them from becoming endangered or threatened. For many of these species, objectives for the population and distribution are set out in a recovery strategy or management plan. This indicator provides a preliminary assessment of whether the recovery or management efforts are on track to meet these objectives. It is important to note that it may take many years to observe a population or distribution response in a species to these efforts"--Page 5.
