5203 |a"Marine survival is a primary challenge to sustainable Atlantic Salmon fisheries and conservation of endangered populations. Telemetry has emerged as an essential tool to study fish at sea and technological developments and innovative study designs are advancing this technology beyond descriptive work. A workshop of research partners and experts was convened in Halifax (NS) on December 5-6, 2017 to review ongoing telemetry initiatives and to develop a vision for a collaborative and coordinated telemetry program for Atlantic Salmon, leveraging the scoping efforts of the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization's (NASCO) International Atlantic Salmon Research Board (IASRB) SALSEA-Track initiative. The workshop was focused on research efforts for North American Atlantic Salmon populations throughout their migratory range. The workshop participants concluded that emerging technologies would change the way Atlantic Salmon populations are monitored at sea. … This report summarizes the discussions from the workshop for the purpose of creating a framework for integrating future research efforts to maximize information gains"--Abstract, page v.
