"The third acoustic survey of herring in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence was conducted in November, 1986. The estimated total area backscattering coefficient for Chaleur Bay was 61,243 m2 sr-1, which was more than twice the estimates made in 1984 and 1985. The coefficient of variation of this estimate was 37%. The largest herring schools were encountered in the Grande Rivière - Newport area"--Abstract, page 2.
