"Landings for flatfish on the Scotian shelf averaged 11,900 t during 1976-1982. The TAC has remained at 14,000 t since 1979. This is mainly a by-catch fishery. Commercial catch rates calculated from Canadian side otter trawlers of tonnage class 4, indicate that the American plaice biomass has declined in recent years"--Abstract, page 2.
