Report on availability, quality and quantity of marine fuels sold in Canada : final report / submitted to Mr. Patrick Cram, Environment Canada, Sector Initiatives Division, In-Use-Programs ; submitted...: En84-272/2005E-PDF

"Sulphur oxides (SOx) in engine emissions have been identified as substances of concern. These compounds can have adverse effects on humans, animals, vegetation and even on buildings. Environment Canada has been monitoring the levels of sulphur in liquid fuels refined and imported into Canada for over ten years; however, Environment Canada's inventory does not include data on the quality of fuels sold specifically to marine vessels in Canada. The present study conducted a survey of Canadian refineries and fuel suppliers in order to fill in the knowledge gaps in this area. The report focuses on commercial ships and provides a comprehensive picture of the current sulphur levels in marine fuels (distillates and residuals), the quantities of marine fuels currently being produced and sold in Canada, and the future availability of the various grades of marine fuels at Canadian ports"--Executive summary, page ii.
