"River discharge can be obtained by either direct or indirect methods of measurement. In this section of the field manual, the techniques used by the Water Resources Branch for making direct discharge measurements by current meter are described in detail since this is the fundamental method for measuring streamflow. Various other techniques such as dye dilution, slope-area methods and flow over weirs or dams are sufficiently complex to be the subject of separate manuals"--Preface.
