"Economic development programs have an important role in supporting the government’s commitment to closing socio-economic gaps and advancing the self-determination priorities of Indigenous communities. Effective economic development programming offers support to communities in taking control of their lands and resources, and seizing those economic development opportunities that align with their plans and goals. Moreover, these programs aim to support an increase in the participation of Indigenous Peoples in the Canadian economy and enable them to pursue the same opportunities for employment, income, and wealth creation as other Canadians"--Executive summary, page 1.
