"Under the International Hydrological Programme, a series of workshops on urban hydrology has been held and the state-of-the-art reports on urban catchment research and modelling have been prepared. Canada has actively participated in these activities since the program inception. The first national report on urban hydrology research in Canada was prepared in 1976 (Marsalek, 1976) and a report update was produced in 1979 (Marsalek, 1979). The report that follows describes the Canadian progress in urban hydrology research and in applications of research findings during the period-from 1979 to 1983. The main topics include research on urban precipitation, characterization of stormwater and combined sewer overflows, runoff impact on receiving waters, mathematical modelling, and runoff control and management"--Introduction.
