"This document outlines various considerations when planning for a new heritage collection facility that provides optimal preventive conservation features. As a companion to this document, a checklist is provided in Appendix C to help project managers track progress during a capital project. This guidance focuses mainly on facility design features; it does not include recommendations for the policies, procedures and practices that are also required to protect collections from the agents of deterioration (with the exception of integrated pest management [IPM] and emergency response). This document can also be used by existing institutions wishing to obtain an overview of preventive conservation requirements in a heritage collection facility"--Introduction, page 5.
