CMHC-2, the Computer Model for Heating Cost-effectively, was developed in order to assist builders, designers, policy makers, researchers, and educators in evaluating energy conservation measures using state-of-the-art techniques. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of CMHC-2 in meeting the needs of a variety of users who have an interest in improving the thermal performance of both new and existing housing. The evaluation focused on:-how CMHC-2 might be used in and by the housing industry -the reactions of representatives of the industry -comparisons with other available programs -refinements and improvements to the prototype version -considerations affecting the sale and distribution of the product. The report concludes:-that there is a need for a program like CMHC-2 -CMHC-2 requires further refinements and additional features prior to release -a private company be made responsible.
