Evaluation of Canada's Extended Continental Shelf Program : final report / prepared by the Diplomacy, Trade and Corporate Evaluation Division (PRE), Global Affairs Canada.: FR5-186/2019E-PDF

"As a Party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Canada is required to file a submission establishing the outer limits of its Extended Continental Shelf (ECS) to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS). International recognition of the outer limits of the ECS solidifies Canada’s sovereign rights over the natural resources of the seabed and subsoil within its ECS. The purpose of Canada’s ECS Program is to map the extent of Canada’s continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles and prepare, present, and defend the scientific evidence in submissions to the CLCS for the Atlantic and Arctic oceans"--Executive summary, page [3].
