Assessment of bibliometrics as a tool for improved program reporting and evaluation within Fisheries and Oceans Canada / by Adam I. Rego, Cody J. Dey, Jonathan D. Midwood and Marten A. Koops.: Fs97-6/3486E-PDF
"Evaluation and reporting on Fisheries and Oceans Canada's (DFO) scientific programs typically relies on coarse metrics to assess how effectively they support the department's mandates, but bibliometric analyses can provide a robust method of improving this assessment. Using bibliometric methods, we were able to perform numerous analyses to improve our understanding of the productivity and impact of DFO science products. Metrics such as publication rates, citation rates, author group size, international collaboration rate, and co-funding rates allow for greater understanding of the health of DFO's Science programs, and open the door to a number of more complex analyses. Here we present a set of simple bibliometrics that can be readily applied to improve program reporting and evaluation based on publicly available data"--Abstract, page vii.
