"In recent decades, court challenges brought by First Nations women and their descendants have prompted Parliament to amend the Indian Act to address discrimination in the registration provisions. Generally, these amendments have made narrow, technical amendments to the Indian Act in response to court decisions, rather than taking a broad approach to address all inequities in the registration provisions"--Executive summary, page 6.
