Prospects for semiconductors in optical switching / Richard Leonelli, Remo A. Masut, S. Iraj Najafi, and John L. Brebner.: Co24-3/1-CD90-001E-PDF

"This report is intended to evaluate the future of semiconductors for optical switching devices. We have critically reviewed the existing literature and added our own comments. Obviously, there are many aspects of this very extended field which have not been tackled or whose assessment will at best be an educated guess. For the most part, we have concentrated on optoelectronic and all-optical devices based on III-V heterostructures, the archetype of which is the AIGaAs/GaAs quantum well"--Introduction, page 4.
