The particular MUSICAM system that was tested was the version submitted to the ISO-IEC/MPEG committee: it performed independent coding of left and right channels of a stereo pair at a reduced bit-rate of 128 kbits/s per monophonic channel. An error protection scheme, which protected the most important coded information and which occupied about 10% of the compressed bit stream, was also implemented.
