An assessment of Atlantic Region Water Quality Branch toxic chemical data, 1980-1987 / Hugh J. O'Neill.En37-596/1988E-PDF

"This document presents data encompassing various toxic organic chemical surveys, conducted by the Water Quality Branch, Atlantic Region for the period 1980 to 1987. Water, bottom sediment and biota results are presented for compounds that were frequently observed in the aquatic ecosystem of the region. The ubiquitous compounds alpha-BHC and fluoranthene were observed in water, while several polyaromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, and the persistent organochlorine DDT and its metabolites were reported in sediments. Biota from the region indicated the presence of DDT, its metabolites, and in some cases PCB's. The harbours of Atlantic Canada were the most contaminated areas sampled in the region"--Abstract, page i.
