Athabasca hydraulic study / prepared by: W.T. Aitken, R. Sapach, M.H. Ghaniabadi.: En37-603/1993E-PDF
"The purpose of this study is to delineate the 1:100 year flood risk areas along the Athabasca River, Muskeg Creek, and the Tawatinaw River at the Town of Athabasca. The designation of flood risk and floodway zones, where new developments would be discouraged because of high water velocities, water depth exceeding one meter, or where encroachment onto the floodplain would increase the water surface by 0.3 m is important to town planners, provincial government agencies and the private sector involved in land development close to the river system. Therefore, it is important to identify the design floods and accurately determine the associated flood levels"--page 1.
