Paid employment, self-employment and gig work in administrative and survey data / by Ping Ching Winnie Chan, Sung-Hee Jeon and Yuri Ostrovsky.CS11-0019/469E-PDF

"This study combines survey and administrative data to examine the correspondence between paid-employment and self-employment activities reported in each of these data sources by the same individuals. The study also looks at the role of self-employment as a supplemental income source for individuals whose self-declared main labour market activity is wage employment. It uses tax data information to identify gig workers specifically and to examine possible links between various aspects of the main wage job and participation in gig work activities. The analysis is based on data from the 2016 Labour Force Survey linked to 2016 administrative data from the Longitudinal Worker File"--Abstract.
