"This report presents the transcription in modern French and English of two eyewitness accounts describing the impacts on the land of the 1663 earthquake that shook the Charlevoix region in Quebec, Canada. The first account, dating from 1666, reports the observations of Jacques Cailhaut de la Tesserie made during an expedition to assess the mining potential along the Gouffre River north of the current municipality of Baie-St-Paul in the Charlevoix region. The second testimony dates from 1688 and presents the observations of Pierre Hameau, a forge master, who had investigated the Gouffre river in order to clarify the notes of Jacques Cailhaut de la Tesserie"--Summary (provided by publisher).
