520 | |a"The purpose of this report is to present results from the first regional-scale approach to map permafrost-related landforms in the Slave Geological Province, together with a compilation of sedimentological and cryostratigraphic records for this region that have been extracted from available reports. The objectives of this study are to: i) identify and classify various permafrost-related landforms using high-resolution satellite imagery acquired for a 10-km-wide swath of land (8576 km² area of interest) aligned with the proposed corridors for the Slave Geological Province Corridor Project, NT, and the Grays Bay Road and Port Project, NU ; ii) provide quantitative measures of the distributions and densities of the set of landforms and determine their associations with surficial geology; and iii) identify and digitally compile the data from available sedimentological and cryostratigraphic records to increase its utility and accessibility. This knowledge on thaw-sensitive permafrost conditions is needed to inform decisions regarding development of resources and climate-resilient northern infrastructure, to identify potential geohazards, and to make inferences on past andfuture landscape evolution"--Introduction, page 1. |
