Guidance and tools for mapping fish habitat with side-scan sonar / Jacob W. Brownscombe, Kurtis Smith, Rick Elsner, Karen Smokorowski.Fs97-6/3577E-PDF

"Side-scan sonar generates high resolution imagery of underwater objects, including fish and structures that comprise physical fish habitat, with wide spatial coverage relative to traditional down-view sonar. It is also integrated into reasonably affordable commercial products, and is therefore becoming increasingly popular for structural fish habitat mapping (e.g., substrate types, woody debris, vegetation). We provide guidance, a generalized workflow, and tools for collecting, processing, and analyzing side-scan sonar data for this purpose"--Abstract, page v.
