"An essential part of achieving Canada's goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 is reducing the reliance on hydrocarbon-based fuels in remote communities. To enable this energy transition, a comprehensive understanding of heating demands at a high-resolution is required. This study proposes using building footprints from OpenStreetMap (OSM), heat load models, and machine learning to generate building heat load maps for the community of Naujaat, Nunavut. The training dataset consisted of manually labelled building footprints from three other communities in Nunavut: including: Gjoa Haven, Coral Harbour and Whale Cove, while the testing dataset consisted of the community of Naujaat"--Executive summary, page i.
