"The main purpose of this program was to identify and map important and critical wildlife areas of the Canadian Arctic where human activities can have an adverse or destructive impact on wildlife populations. The objectives were two-fold: to bring together as much data as possible on habitats utilized by a wide range of species; and to provide a planning tool for both government and industry to help preserve these wildlife areas"--Page 2.
