"Health Canada commissioned the Environics Research Group to conduct public opinion research to gauge Canadians’ awareness, perceptions and behavioural responses to air quality, air pollution and the air quality index (AQI). The findings from this research will be used to guide the development of health messages to effectively communicate the AQI to Canadians with respect to the health risks associated with poor air quality, as well as promote actions that will protect their health and the environment. This current work builds on previous studies conducted by Health Canada and Environment Canada over the past decade. The study consists of quantitative and qualitative research that was conducted in three phases between July 2004 and March 2005"--Executive summary, page 9.
