Assessment : select hydrocarbon-based substances.: En84-371/2024E-PDF
"Pursuant to section 68 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA) (Canada 1999), the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Health have conducted an assessment of 8 hydrocarbon-based substances to determine whether they present or may present a risk to the environment or to human health. These eight substances were identified as priorities for assessment as they met categorization or were prioritized through other mechanisms (ECCC, HC [modified 2017]). The substances addressed in this report are considered to be of unknown or variable composition complex reaction products or biological materials (UVCBs). This report has two parts. The eight hydrocarbon-based substances being assessed were divided into five subgroups based on their physical and chemical properties, as well as their anticipated uses, and their risks are characterized in five separate sections (Sections 2 to 6). The second part of this report (Section 7) includes an additional 35 hydrocarbonbased substances which were identified as priorities for assessment as they met categorization criteria or were prioritized through other mechanisms …"--Introduction, page 1.
