520 |a"We analyzed containerships and tankers in detail to assess their feasibility to use shore power in the Salish Sea Canada. This included an assessment of current and projected fleets to quantify vessels equipped for shore power, vessels which would be good candidates for retrofitting, vessels which were too old to justify the investment, and vessels that would be scrapped. The study compiled data on costs to install, operate and maintain vessel shore power for newly constructed vessels or to retrofit older vessels. In addition, we assessed operations at the Port of Vancouver to gain insights from important lessons learned about the current use of shore power. Cost data were compiled for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the landside components of shore power. Anticipated power usage was assessed and discussed with the local power supplier, BC Hydro. The projected activity, changes in the fleet, and cost data were used in emission reduction estimates and in a cost benefit analysis. …"--Executive summary, page 3.
