520 |a"Two contributions were made to a study of the glacial and postglacial history of the Houghton Lake Basin in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, USA. The first contribution describes the variation of water levels of Lake Huron (-130 m) and Lake Michigan (-100 m) which controlled the base levels for ground and surface water drainage in Lower Michigan during the past 14,000 years. These variations likely affected sedimentation within small lakes like Backus, Pup, and Marl, and partially with changes in the much larger Higgins Lake, all within the Houghton Lake Basin. The second contribution provides an estimate of differential crustal uplift in the Houghton Lake Basin north of a zone of crustal subsidence"--Abstract, page 1.
