Evaluation of precipitation forecasts for the Saint John River Valley / by L.M.D. Burns and R.B.B. Dickison = Évaluation des prévisions de précipitation pour la vallée du Saint-Jean / par L.M.D. Burns...: En57-57/709-1969E-PDF
"One-day and two-day forecasts of precipitation amounts prepared for the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission for the Saint John River Valley are evaluated over a one year period for degree of absolute error and bias. Forecast errors were less than 0.10 inches for the first 24-hour period but slightly higher for the second day for the areas selected for verification. Forecast bias was negligible for the first day, but indicated a slight underestimate – 0.04 inches and 0.02 inches – of the actual precipitation for the second day, despite a pronounced negative bias for the few occasions of higher forecasts. "Skill score" analysis indicated positive factors for both periods"--Abstract.
