"The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls published its Final Report in 2019, including 231 Calls for Justice intended to address the root causes that sustain violence against First Nations, Inuit, and Métis women, girls, two-spirit and gender-diverse people. … Among them, Call for Justice 1.7 calls on the federal, provincial, and territorial governments, in partnership with Indigenous Peoples, to establish a National Indigenous and Human Rights Ombudsperson with authority in all jurisdictions, and to establish a National Indigenous and Human Rights Tribunal. … This report represents meetings, including engagements and validations with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis organizations and governments, Indigenous women's organizations, those dedicated to (MMIWG2S+), and urban, rural, and northern Indigenous organizations, all of which include families and survivors, to further explore the urgent need for, and implications deriving from, Call for Justice 1.7.
