Women's participation in the labour force has increased across recent decades, but despite these improvements, women in Canada continue to encounter barriers and challenges to their economic participation and empowerment. Recognizing the barriers and challenges facing women in Canada, the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women (the Committee or FEWO) undertook a study on women's economic empowerment in Canada. … The following report presents an overview of the testimony and submissions received by the Committee, focusing on existing initiatives in Canada that support women's economic empowerment, women's experiences in the labour force in various sectors, the barriers and challenges that women may encounter in their economic participation and empowerment, as well as possible avenues for supporting women's economic empowerment in Canada. The Committee's recommendations to the Government of Canada highlight the ways in which women's economic empowerment may be supported and improved through new and existing initiatives"--Introduction, page 7. |
