520 |a"This Five Nations Multi-Species Fishery Management Plan (2023/24 FMP) covers the period April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, with an extension to March 31, 2025 while the Government of Canada and the Five Nations complete the ratification process for the 2024 Incremental Reconciliation Agreement for Fishery Resources. Once this agreement is ratified, a new Annual Fishing Plan will be developed to replace the 2023/24 FMP. The FMP provides for a multi-species sale fishery that DFO considers to accommodate the Five Nations' Aboriginal commercial fishing rights. To this end, the FMP outlines the Five Nations' fishing opportunities for salmon, groundfish, crab, prawn, Sea Cucumber and Gooseneck Barnacle and the management regime for this co-managed fishery. The 2023/24 FMP is the fifth Multi-Species FMP developed by DFO since the 2018 Court Order. Following the 2021 BCCA decision, DFO began reviewing and amending the FMP to ensure consistency with the court decision. With the issuance of the 2023/24 FMP, it is DFO's view that the majority of the BCCA's findings have been addressed. Items still under review are described in Section 3. DFO intends to continue to review the FMP, and will make further changes inseason and amend the FMP as needed. …"--Preamble, page 14.
